Mama Talk With Pamela Bearden

Meet Pamela Bearden ( & pictured Micah Bearden), she is a gymnastics coach, photographer, and total bad ass considering she has been doing both of these things on top of being pregnant! She is the first of my friends to have a girl, so I am obviously jealous of all the cute clothes she has found for her little one! They currently reside in Decatur where they live in a beautiful, light filled home with a bamboo forest in their backyard (which I am also jealous of, since we live in a loft with no backyard) ! She is here to tell us about pregnancy, travel, and designing a nursery!

When are you expecting (is this your first)?: *We are expecting our first little girl November 13th (holy crap)! Just right around the corner and we cannot be more excited!

How you came up with the name Willow James: *The name James came up in my mind a couple time while we were searching for names for a boy or a girl. I love the idea of girls having "boy names" because I've never been the most feminine myself. While I would've loved having James be her first name, I figured we could soften it up by adding Willow onto the front and making James the middle name. When I hear the name Willow James, the words "peace and loyalty" ring in our hearts and I couldn't imagine a better statement for our little girl to grow up embracing.

Tell us about your pregnancy: *Whew... pregnancy has been no easy ride for me. Firstly, I'm a competitive cheerleading coach as well as a wedding photographer. Both include being active and on your feet for long periods of time (as well as pretending to have a lot of energy and enthusiasm even when you really don't). So the first trimester and half of the second was consumed by chronic nausea and throwing up. I ended up loosing weight instead of gaining because of the condition. Luckily, my doctors prescribed me the miracle drug, Diclegis, to assist with the throwing up and I started feeling like I could function again! Now that I'm nearing the end, my sickness has passed and I've just been able to enjoy my sweet belly and finish strong!   Although I wanted to have the most perfect pregnancy ever (haha yeah right), I've definitely done my fair share of "not-supposed-to's". Because I was so sick in my first trimester, taking a prenatal vitamin was a no-go for me. I also couldn't keep down water, salads or "bland" foods, so hickory fries, coke and chips were about all I could keep down regularly. Also, I rode roller coasters at 14 weeks in Disney World, got a finger tattoo, demonstrated way too many gymnastics skills at work... the list definitely goes on but I'll stop there. The best thing I've learned is to give yourself grace in pregnancy and allow yourself a coke every now and then!

What inspired you when designing her nursery?:   *Her nursery kind of came together over time. I love neutrals!! Like... too much. My mom couldn't believe when she looked at my registry and didn't see any color. But overtime, I incorporated a few colors here and there giving it a bit of a desert/bohemian theme. I wanted to collect small treasures throughout the pregnancy that I felt summed up our style as parents as well as speak into who we want to teach Willow to be. Especially the banner that hangs above her crib.

Do you have any advice on traveling while pregnant?: *I travelled to Disney in my first trimester and Vegas around the end of my second. Both had their own challenges. Obviously, make sure to pack realistic. You won’t wear heels and want to look cute every day! You’re growing a human so give yourself some grace. Throw your favorite pair of joggers in there and wear em proudly! At the airport, I opted out of the security scanner (because of the radiation) and chose to get a “pat down”. Humiliating and a little more time consuming but you gotta protect that baby. When you’re out with your friends or whomever you’re traveling with, know your limits. When I was in Disney, I packed a fanny pack full of slim jims to keep me full while we walked the parks. And in Vegas, when my friends would go out, I wouldn’t feel pressure to “keep up” with them. When I was tired, I went back to the hotel. Traveling while pregnant is totally doable and fun, just take your time and take care of yourself! And make sure to visit as many cute baby shops as you can! :)
